Re: Expats from Nova Roma

Plauta, The site founder for NA admitted his grammatical mistake regarding the site name. Nonetheless, it's a nice place full of cordial, pleasant people who do a wide variety of practical things for the gods of their understanding. They don't descend into bitter, condescending anality --- unli...

Re: Improving SVR's Visibility

I would think it was simple: "Celebrating the living Roman Way and the legacy of the Roman world" Which is what all Romanophile sites do, in various ways. What I am trying to say here is you need to find something to offer the Romanophile community it can't get somewhere else, and p...

Re: Improving SVR's Visibility

I hope I don't ruffle any feathers when I say this, because it is not my intent, but as a more or less objective observer from the outside, I have to ask: What do you guys believe in? What do you stand for? What is your purpose? What is your vision? Reading through your threads, it doesn't real...

Re: Roman Themed Games

I've also got Rome Total War, with the Barbarian Expansion. Haven't played it as much though. I played that for a time. Great sound and visual! But so totally inaccurate historically in so many things. The point of games are to be entertaining not historically accurate, hehe! I know ....

Re: Improving SVR's Visibility

I recommend SVR to my friends, though most of them seem busy enough with whatever other sites they are already on.

As for improving visibility, I suggest loading some reviews of Roman books, movies and board games on Amazon.com, with a link that leads back to SVR.

Re:

Salve Draco I would want to bring back the roman attitude towards life and religion. Their attitude is better than the ones we got today. vale Quintus I can easily agree with that. (Are you still around Orcus)? I would also bring back Roman engineering. Roman roads are still functioning aft...

Re: 300

"300" was made for the comic book crowd. If you shut off your brain you can enjoy it for what it is, but I agree it is a movie I don't care to see twice.

Re: different traditions

I tried following an exclusively Roman practice but found it didn't work for me. These days I honor Greek and Greco-Egyptian gods in a Hellenistic format. Hermes, Zeus, Dionysus and Athene are all gods to whom I have paid homage at one time or another. I also honor Isis. I have made off...

Re: A Larger Ekumenism?

Salvete sodales omnes - Can the world come to a Pax Ecumenicalis without doing violence to those same individual faiths and understandings? How would it work? Or would it simply be undesirable? I am afraid we in our own time already see stirrings of a great "Clash of Civilizations&qu...

Re: Decline and Fall Theory

Has anyone read the books by Peter Heather and Adrian Goldsworthy dealing with the fall of the west? The former is of the opinion that Germanic supertribes created by Hunnish invasions were the main culprit. The latter believes that Roman civil wars and internal strife was the ultimate culprit...

Re: Expats from Nova Roma

I wasn't going to say anything about NR, but there was a thread here soliciting my opinion, and so I gave it. But since it seems to be getting a bit dark in tone I shall refrain from making any more comments after this post in deference to the moderators. Both of you two above are right .. differ...

Re: Romanitas Rising

I've enjoyed classical history and classical mythology since a little child. It was always a side concern, though, to whatever I was doing at the moment. After college, however, the world looked a little different to me. I decided that in the quest to pursue meaning and identity, the classical...

What are you guys looking for as far as content for your webpage? The original post was over 4 years ago, but I assume anything relevant to Roman history and culture is still open?

Re: The Message

The lack of a universal message is one of the things that attracted me to classical polytheism. If I leave aside for a moment the philosophies and mystical schools, I see only two presumptions in mainstream polytheism: The gods exist. The gods should be honored with certain rites, festivals a...

Re: Why paganism?

I call myself a classical polytheist and that usually gets the message across. The fact that "pagan" may have been used as a slur by Christians doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that "pagan" in the modern era is a shorthand for a wide array of modern mystical and occu...

Salve!

Thanks for the explanations.

As far as the address, as long as it is not misused or shared, I will fill out an application to become a Sodalis.

Re: How do You Practice Your Romanitas in Your Daily Life?

Well, I am always trying to read something and anything on Greece, Rome and Egypt. And when I read, I often write about it. I've written numerous essay and book reviews on another site, which I hope inspires people to learn more. Religiously I honor Greco-Roman and Greco-Egyptian gods everyday....
