Re: MUSONIUS RUFUS

No, I haven't read but a couple of cites from what survives from Rufus.

But now that that has been collected and translated, I'll certainly get it. It's required reading for the Stoic's Library!

Vale!

MUSONIUS RUFUS

Salvete, qui legunt - A new English translation of what is recorded of the Stoic teaching of Musonius Rufus, the teacher of Epictetus, has been released. It is by Ms. Cynthia King, and bears a preface by William B. Irvine, author of 'A Guide to the Good Life: the Ancient Art of Stoic Joy'. These...

Re: DEMOCRACY! with very little Demo-....

Salvete, Quirites - Of course - I was forgetting my SVR history - the Interrex! And Marius divined it better than I - in effect, given these 'res novae' of late, an Interrex would be the answer. Why didn't I think of that? (Well, you don't have to answer that question! ) As to who is ...

Re: DEMOCRACY! with very little Demo-....

Salvete, Sodales - There's no need to re-do the SVR over this. No need to tear anything down, or hunt up all references to the Regula or to us as the SVR. The Stipulations were intended to be our own formal recognition that the Regula - as they stand - are not functional (we have no officers and...

U of Regensberg Gladiatorials

Re: DEMOCRACY! with very little Demo-....

Avete, Sodales - Yes, indeed, to recognize the situation - call a spatha a spatha, you might say - put a proper cap on the Regula - and the era which we've seen fade into absurdity. If we preserve the Regula on line, so it seems to me, there should be an acknowledgment there, too. :| If the...

DEMOCRACY! with very little Demo-....

Salvete, qui iam hoc in sito restant. Timavus (Benefactor Novi Siti) has proposed elsewhere that we recognize the absurdity of trying to apply the old Regulae Fundamentales to a Sodalitas made up of only a handful of semi-active members. I hope, Timave, that you don't mind me doing this in your...

Re: Site Transfer

Salvete, Omnes -

I stand corrected - again! I del'd my earlier post which offered a bit of spurious advice on the SVR's domain name and accessing the site in its new incarnation.

 :)

Thanks, Marii.

Re: DEATH IN POMPEII RPG

Decius Valerius looked around. Pompeii - what a place! It suited him well. Sitting outside of the taberna, he eyed the slave taking care of his horse, and cocked an eyebrow up in reluctant approbation. "Knows what he's about," he murmured to himself. It had been a longer than usu...

Alright - per Marius's nudge, I am at the BB3 preview page on the new server.

It looks just the same! Well, it is the same. Same software, same content.

Re: Dioscuri

Salve, Lucane -

Sorry to be a bit dense, but I'm curious: Were these scholarly/critical anthologies or perhaps fiction anthologies? Were they published on the site or commercially?
