Re: Hail, all!

Salve Servi Marti Tiro, Welcome to our board! In Britain there are many Roman places as well, it doesn't need to be the Italian peninsula, but in the "provinces" are many remains as well. And even if you don't live close to any Roman place what counts is that you feel attracted to the Rom...

Re: DEMOCRACY! with very little Demo-....

I guess that most people who sign up at this board will use it like any other forum on the internet was well. That they could read about and discuss topics they are interested in and that they so find people with like-minded interests. All other boards function with an administrator and several mode...

Re: LVDVS NEMESIS Gigs in 2010

Instead of opening a new thread I rather use this old one to post our this year's gigs: Blütenfest in Bubach (St. Wendel) 09. Mai 2010 This is festival in a small village where a Roman villa rustica has been found hence a Roman motto for the festival of this year. This will be highlighted by the ...

Salve Spuri Mamili Lucane, I welcome here to the SVR hoping that you will enjoy it here and will take part actively in any discussions. We do have a vast section on religio romana and quite some of us are also followers of the Ancient Gods. Also with you knowledge of Latin you will find some like-m...

Re: Swords of the Republic and Empire

With the scutum holding on the left side you can't draw a sword which sits on the left side. With the cingulum and the balteus the scabbard is fixed so it is easy to draw the gladius from the right side. And since it is a short sword it is also managable. (But I as a gladiator reenactor actually don...

Re: End of the Year; Call for Officers

I just want to let you know that I read this thread but that I won't apply for a candidature as officer. I once had an office here and couldn't fulfill it due to me being too busy outside the virtual world. This hasn't changed and indeed is increasing as things are going on with my gladiator group t...

Re: If you were a Roman gladiator, what name would you adopt ?

LOL! That's kind of an interesting question, since it requires you to speculate on (or research) what the Roman mass audience responded best to, in terms of "product" or "celebrity" names.... Maybe Cleo has a range of popular gladiatorial stage-names handy and could ...

Re: If you were a Roman gladiator, what name would you adopt ?

MEDVSA >({|;-)

Amazone or Achillia were not appropriate to me to chose because they were honored with the relief for outstanding combat and they were professionals while we in our group are only hobby fighters.

Re: Roman symbol

I wear a lunula pendant on a necklace but this is most likely something of the Germanic provinces. When I was asatru I wore a Thor's hammer necklace as well.

Say thanks to your wife for the nice comment. I definitely did not feel pretty at that moment, exhausted from fighting with still suffering from a heavy cold.

Re: LVDVS NEMESIS Gigs in 2009

This is not a gig actually but we had been filmed by a local TV crew and the thing was broadcasted at the end of April on NDR (North-German Television). Now our webmaster uploaded this film to our website and those of you who understand German could follow this link to watch it: http://www.ludus-ne...

Death at the Ludus Gladiatorum

Scorpio, the thraex, was sitting shackled in the ergastulum at the ludus in the quadriporticus behind the grand theater. He was angry that his magister (gladiator trainer) had ordered him here because of some insubordination he, Scorpio supposedly had done yesterday during the final training. He had...

Re: New RP Discussion Thread

I'm not much into SciFi either though always enjoyed to watch Star Trek but that's it. And fantasy is not that much of my preferences either. So I propose we should stick to a story based in Rome without SciFi or Fantasy elements but more free e.g. to what a senator does or does not or when venation...

Re: Gladiatrices (Female Gladiators)

The only two names of gladiatrices (a venatrix is a beast fighter hence something different) are Amazone and Achillia, the names attested to the two women shown on the Halicarnassos relief. I didn't want to have as an arenaname a recorded name since there are only two women's names recorded so I had...
