Salve, It is my understanding that auspices are taken for specific reasons to see if the action coincides with the will of the Gods, to see if it will be favorable with the Gods. So I suppose to gain a better insight into any possible meaning of this occurrence is to determine what you might...

Mos Maiorum

Salvete omnes,

I know Mos Maiorum means "ancestral customs" but I have been coming across it more and more lately in books, and I was wondering if anyone has any information on what exactly the Mos Maiorum entailed?

Salve,

It was my understanding that the Unitarian Universalist Church is the major group in our times that is moving for the unity and 'ekumenism' as you have called it.

Salve, I seem to recall there also being a practice of setting the newborn down on the floor; if the father picked it up, it was acknowledged as part of the family; if not, it was left on a stranger's doorstep or exposed. Does this ring any bells? It does sound familiar :D In Pax Deorum...

Salvete omnes, I have been asking questions here like a storm, but I have a lot on my mind. :P We all know the similarities between say Jupiter and Zeus, Juno and Hera, etc... however what makes the Roman Gods different from their Greek counterparts? In essence, why is it that the Religio R...

Birth

I remember earlier today that when I was reading the book "Pandora" by Anne Rice, she mentioned a part that when the character was born (I believe it was the Imperial Era), her father performed a ritual mourning because she was a girl and not a boy. I was wondering, in regard to birth a...

Salvete,

I received another book on the Magna Mater and Cybele cults. From glancing through it it does have sections about the Roman State Cult. I should start reading soemtime next week.

Hopefully it has some good ifno that can be gleamed from it.

Salve, Despite this new revelation in the cultus of the Magna Mater, my question still stands. Though my interests are now turned to the Roman Cultus, I'm afraid that the Phrygian one holds more available information and therefore must remain at the forefront of my practices if and until more in...

Salve, Just this week I got my hands on MJ Vermaseren's Cybele and Attis, the Myth and the Cult And I just began reading it today, but I found a part that somewhat supports a State Cult vs an Oriental Cult. In ancient Athens, when the Official State Cult of Cybele was established Her shri...

The Taurobolium and Modern Practice

Being that the Magna Mater is my patron Goddess I was wondering what other's thoughts were about editing the Taurobolium being that such sacrifice is not exactly pleasant in our modern age. Any ideas as to what could be done in an alternative? Especially being that the Priests of the Magna Mater...

Well from the few images i have seen, they are not in relation with Egyptian monuments like the ones you speak which can be found all over Rome. But i had seen a sculpted mural of Roman deities and a winged one as well, who i think was one of the four winds, but it also depicted the obelisk as well...
