Need help identifying an image/statue

Salvete omnes, Various pictures around the internet exist of a bust (or statue?) claiming to be of Berenice of Cilicia (aka emperor Titus' lover). Two examples below: http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/6293/bereniceunknownsourceoy9.th.gif http://img518.im...

I've found out more about this in the mean time. An inscription from Alba Fucens confirms that Macro indeed was Vigile prefect during his career but this may have been during the years 20-24. Graecinius Laco was most likely Vigile prefect when Sejanus was deposed. See: Bingham, Sandra J. (1998)...

Naevius Sutorius Macro: function prior to 31 AD?

Cassius Dio writes that, when Tiberius was preparing to depose Sejanus, Naevius Sutorius Macro was appointed to replace him as commander of the Praetorians, and worked with Graecinius Laco, who was the commander of the Vigiles to carry out his plans. (Dio, Roman History LVIII.9) A lot of texts ...

Seems my account is still active after all. Thanks Piscinus! But there are still some points I'd like to see clarified: 1) Should I now conclude that, no 'official' Roman legion was allowed past the Rubicon or not? 2) I'm extremely confused about the relation between the Praetorian guard, th...

Oh, and let's not forget there's an epic on Hannibal on its way starring Vin Diesel (that's right VIN DIESEL) as the Carthaginian general.

There seems to be a revival of Sword-and-sandal epics in Hollywood lately. First Gladiator, now Troy, and a bunch of Alexander projects coming up. You won't believe this, but as it stands, there are 4 Alexander the Great films in the works right now. I did some research on IMDB so I'll just post the...

There is one film you've all missed that cimply cannot be beaten, and that's Monty Python and the Life of Brian...! Ok, so it's probably not too hot on historical accuracy, but it is a genius film nonetheless! The latin grammar sketch particularly always gets me going... Valete I love that par...

hmm torture, beating, abuse, violence, my type of movie. :) I'm pretty sure that some sequences will be cut like they did with the movie Event Horizon where they cut more than 15 minutes of scenes because it was too violent. If they start to speak the actual languages of those days in movies, we...

It might also be interesting to note the upcoming movie The Passion of the Christ. Aside from the controversy, the film is spoken entirely in Latin and ancient Hebrew language. I'm very curious to what the pronunciation will be like. I hear it's gonna be a pretty violent movie though, with long s...

oh btw, I hear Baz Luhrmann's Alexander is off. From IMDB: "Director Oliver Stone is breathing a sigh of relief after learning Australian Baz Luhrmann's rival film about Alexander The Great has been called off. Stone has already begun filming his epic Alexander in Morocco with Colin Farrell and A...

Re: future movies of interest

Salvete I checked the Internet Movie Database at http://www.imdb.com/ and i found some interesting titles. In 2005 there will be a movie about Hannibal, who will cross the alps: starring Vin Diesel. There will also be a miniseries about Rome called Rome, but no details are really given about this. ...
