Salve, Welcome to the SVR! I hope you received my Welcome e-mail? I think you find we are more laid back here and not as intense as NR. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. If I can't answer it someone will gladly jump in to help. I've just set-up a RomanSpace page the other day also....

I like it. It would be better than the military ranking rating we have now. Also, after someone leaves office
he/she would have a status symbol to keep on the forum.

New Curatores and the Future

I would like to thank all of the Society members who voted for us. We will not let you down! I will be getting together with my colleagues to discuss what idea's and changes we will push forward with. I would very much like to have the past Curatores remain as long as they wish to act as a advisory ...

Salve, Welcome, I hope you(and your family) will enjoy yourself here in the SVR. I too am a NR member and my term as Tribunus Plebis will expire tomorrow. I'm sure you will like it here. We are a LOT different than NR(for one thing no backstabbing and no shouting matches). Vale, Quintus Ser...

What is going on in NR at this time is why for the first time in over six years I did not run for a Office. I've been a Scriba, a Provincial Governor, Diribitor, and Tribunus Plebis. Now I am taking a break from NR(at least as an Office holder) for a while. This way I can concentrate on the SVR. ...

Candidate for Curator

Salvete Omnes, I am announcing my Candidacy for Curator. I feel being a former SVR Censor and due to the fact I am presently handling the Membership applications as Curator suffectus that I am well qualified for the job. Also, at the present time I am one of Nova Roma's five Tribunes of the Plebs...

I have an appraisal!

Well, I got an appraisal from Whatsitworthtoyou.com today. One of their experts, a Will Gorges said this: Quote: Appears to be a lower middle eastern to Russian form of kindjal, used by several North African nations as well as Persian states and even to western Russia. These are relatively commo...

The tang on the Gladius was tapered to allow a hand grip to be attached and a pommel added to the end. The tang on my Qama was shaped as a one piece hand grip. Here are what the Gladius blades are shaped like(the drawings are from the Legio XX website): http://www.larp.com/legioxx/bl...

It's a Persian Qama!

I was doing a Google search for Persian Qama and found these photo's of a Qama that had been sold. Here's a link for it(look at the hilt on the 7th pic down it's almost a twin to mine). The blade is different but the rivets on the hilt are the deciding factor I think. But, I still love it even if it...

I've updated my photo's of the Gladius. I removed the electrical tape someone had put on the hilt. After going to the Legio XX site and looking around the section on the Gladius I have determined it is a Fulham pattern Gladius with a Quama blade. Now I would like to know how old it is(or is it a goo...

Gladius Query

Salve, Recently a co-worker who had gone to Kansas City for a couple of months came back and he had a Gladius. He got it from a family friend who supposedly had been a Archeology student in Italy in the 1960's. Due to my interest in things Roman he gave it to me. It is a little over 22" ...

I am presently reading the Stephen Dando-Collins book "Caesar's Legion". It is about the Elite 10th Legion from it's formation in Spain to the Siege at Masada. The same author has written about another book on Nero's 14th Legion called "Nero's Killing Machine: The True Remarkable Sto...

I saw it on Friday. I thought it was way to heavy on the CGI. The History Channel had a two hour special on Thursday night on the 300 Spartans that was real interesting. The producers took too many liberties(i.e. a mutated Rhino, three elephants, and the double samurai sword wielding Immortal's) with...

Here's a site that show what Trajan's Column would look like laid out straight and flat. This link is from another Roman group(NOT Nova Roma):
