Re: New RP Discussion Thread

Salve Sempronia Pulla,

Why don't you play a Patrician woman who does things which are not appropriate for Patricians to do? That would spice up your role if you play someone who does unconventional things and does not limit you because its just a game.

Re: New RP Discussion Thread

I agree with Marius' suggestions of how to get started and about the conventions of our RPG.

Re: New RP Discussion Thread

I'm still interested in the RP but am very unexperienced in such things so like you, Iohane, I, too need some guidance.

Medusa's Morning

I found this link on the RAT forum and like it since it's a joke about Medusa (which is my arena name as a gladiatrix):

Re: "Summa Rudis"?

Valerius Claudius Iohanes wrote:Salve, Cleopatra Aelia -

What would a "summa rudis" be doing?

Vale.

The summa rudis is the referee at gladiatorial fights. E.g. the famous mosaic from Nennig shows one watching over a fight of a retiarius and a secutor.

I have two of the gladiators and one legionary by Playmobil. So I put their armor together in a way that it comes to close to being authentic, have now the pairing of a hoplomachus against a murmillo. And the legionary functions as a summa rudis ;-)

Good idea. Makes it also for me easy to play at least some kind of a role since gladiators are appearing.

The so called "mixed edifice" was very common in Gaul in contrary to an amphitheater. Nonetheless places with a mixed edifice still had also a small theater. Alison Futrell pointed this phenomenon of mixed edifices out in her book "Blood in the Arena".
