Salve Marce!
Not to be a buttinsky, but I just got to say... These prayers are really good.
Hail M. Moravi Horati Piscine, for compiling & posting these prayers.

Salve Marce! Si vales, bene est.
Welcome aboard.
I'm 30, from PA, and never had the chance to study Latin. But I'm trying.
Good luck with your studies.
Vale bene!

Minerva and the owl?

SALVETE OMNES, S.V.B.E.V.

Does anybody know if the owl was a symbol of Minerva?
I haven't found a reference to the owl and Minerva yet.
Now does this have something to do with the Roman's fear of the strix?
Or are my research skills that lacking?

MVLTAS GRATIAS, PISCINE!

I was under the mistaken impression that the Dei Praecipui indicated some sort of abandoning of other Roman Gods.

Many thanks,
VALE BENE!

2 questions of Varro's Dei Praecipui

SALVETE OMNES, S.V.B.E.V.
Excuse my ignorance here...
Do Varro's Dei Praecipui predate the Di Consentes?
Do the Dei Praecipui represent a move toward monotheism? Or hellenization? Or something else?

Was Apuleius a monotheist?

SALVETE OMNES, S.V.B.E.V.
Was Apuleius, author of Metamorphosis a monotheist or polytheist?

Is this true?

SALVETE OMNES, S.V.B.E.V.
Someone e-mailed me this:
30 B.C.: Roman poet Horace in his Epodes of Horace associated Witches with the goddess Diana in a mystery cult.
Is this true? Horace was a poet right? This shouldn't be taken as evidence of witchcraft in Classical Rome, correct?

SALVETE OMNES, S.V.B.E.V.
I now have Gibbon, and T.J. Cornell's The Beginnings of Rome.
I think I'm going to read one after the other. Starting with Cornell.

Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire

SALVETE OMNES, S.V.B.E.V.
Has anyone read Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire?
I just want to know if it's worthy.

Salve Marce.
Rest assured there's no confusion of that type here. (More like disproving C.G. Leland.)
I'm off to search for the works Georgic I, De Rustica and Fasti, and will consult some Hellenismos on Phosphoros.
