Yes, I'm referencing the Monty Python movie. >({|:-D

So, let's make a list of all the wonderful things that have happened because of the Romans. I'll start:

Roman baths - I wish I could have one.

The Res Publica, the governing of the state by the people who constituted the state. (It wasn't perfect, but it became the basic notion of how politics could best work. And the attempts to realize it were much more widely attempted than any to put Plato's republic into practice.)

I just saw a blurb on a book specifically called,

The Inheritance of Rome: Illuminating the Dark Ages, 400-1000.

Published by Viking Adult this last July 30, 2009. That should bear on this topic - wonder if it's in the library yet....
