Salvete omnes...

Were the Ludi ever actually a Collegium...? I'd always seen them just listed as "Ludi", or (on a good day) "Ludi Societatis". They have their own Board section, of course, which makes them the equivalent of a Collegium. But I don't recall "Collegium" actually being a part of their name...was it?

It currently is missing the Collegium, and the names would be terrible Latin. Mari, please nix out the Collegia on the choices.

I just thought about the names and what they imply and since seven people already voted I might be too late by writing this.

The first two options apply to me that it's only dealing with virtual games while the latter would include also a scholarly discussion about anything which has to do with the entertainment "industry" in Rome be it the theatrical displays, chariot races, gladiatorial games etc.

Well, this is just how I understand the three options.

Ludi

Postby Aldus Marius on Tue Jul 25, 2006 10:12 pm

Salvete omnes,

On the Web site, info on the Roman Ludi is in the Collegium Historicum section; the Societas' own games are under the Ludi Societatis section, and are linked to from Collegium Vita Quotidiana. IOW, our Games material is all over the sitemap.

I had been planning, even some months ago, to consolidate it all under Ludi Societatis. Then the virtual Games and the historical ones would be all in one place, whatever we end up calling it.

Is good?

Salvete omnes,

well, if we're planning on merging historical games and our games into one subforum, I'd like it to be called just "Ludi".

I voted for "Ludi Societatis" first but if they get merged, I don't think it would be an appropriate name.

Salvete omnes...

It looks like my planned realignment might resolve the issue; perhaps we should just scrap this poll and leave the Webmaster to his work? >({(:-)

I would think that they should be separated. I see the collegia as more scholarly, but if it has to do with the society/role playing, then I think it would be better in the Res Publica, i.e. our interaction in the Societas itself. I would vote a Ludi Societas and keep the Collegium Historicum (Historiae) or Collegium Vitae Cotidianae.

Salve Scerio,

If you want it like that then the role play thread has to leave the CollArt
as well but we had decided on keeping it there.

I think we should keep everything which has to do with ludi, be it virtual or on the scholarly field in one collegium and just mark the virtual games by RP for role play or something similar then it becomes clear which are the topics for the virtual games and which are threads with scholarly discussions about ludi and munera.

Could I persuade you to hold onto that thought until I present my "masterfully coherent idea" to the Comitia/Curia?

As it stands now, our "Res Publica" section, i.e. the actual social part of our societas is rather defunct for the most part. I'd like to see a more active Romanitas flowing through our Res Publica. As I see it, our collegia are for scholarly activities, and our Res Publica is for our social activities. Keeping them separate would actually promote more diversity, as one set or another do not start to choke the others. If we have several RP threads, they won't overshadow the more scholarly nature of the collegium.

OK, then I wait for your "masterfully coherent idea". Hope you'll present it soon
