Salvete Omnes,

Most people here on the board know me already but esp. for the newbies who would like to know who are the people they are dealing with here I would like to present myself:

I joined this board and the SVR at the beginning of 2005, back then just interested in reading about Ancient Rome. In May of that very same year I visited a Roman festival in Germany and since then became infected with the Roman virus totally and wanted to do reenactment. Since being interested in Martial Arts in general and not being a handicraft person this left me to become a gladiatrix. I joined a group in Hamburg which is doing mainly legionaries and the gladiators were just a side-kick. Personally it didn't work out though so I founded my own gladiator group in summer 2006. Here's the link to our website:

http://www.ludus-nemesis.eu/en/index.html

Since I started with gladiatorial reenactment I read tons of books about gladiators and I think it is a very interesting topic about which many misconceptions exists, mostly triggered by Hollywood. Any questions on gladiators? I would be pleased to answer them if possible. Please post them in the Ludi section.

Beside gladiators and their immediate surroundings I'm also interested in the daily life of the Romans, be it of that of the soldiers or ordinary people.

Gratias ago.

Salve, Cleopatra Aelia -

Gratias ago, and also for the link to the other thread, which I had missed.

Vale bene.

Avete Amici,

I'll be off to Roma next Monday and will stay there one week with a day trip by train to Pompeii. After that I'll have my boyfriend (long distance relationship) who's also murmillo in my gladiator group coming over for a couple of days.

So don't worry if you don't hear anything from me for a while.

Valete optime

Salve, Cleopatra Aelia,

Be sure to take plenty of pictures :) I'm always interested to see new photographs of Roman ruins, artifacts, or inscriptions. Hope you enjoy your trip.

I'm back already for quite a long time. It was a very nice trip and of course I took tons of pics, many of the Colosseum of course ;-) But also of the less-known Amphitheatrum Castrense which was a private amphitheater to the Emperors palace in the 3rd century. One day we went to Pompeii, and visited Ostia as well. Only Hadrian's villa I missed again :-(

Tarquini Dionysi, no problem to send you some pics by e-mail if you like.

Pix!!

Salve, mi Aelia, et Salvete omnes!

...Or you could share them with all of us, by posting them here...

The Roman Way's Forum (also a BB2 Board like this one) lets you actually post images as attachments to your messages. Ours isn't that spiffy (yet? --that gets back to an old Board: Upgrade-or-Replace question Q Valerius and I brought up last year). In the meantime, anyone who would like to include a graphic with his or her post can send it to me; I'll put it on the server where the Board can get to it, and send you the link to make it show up in your message. (I believe the server and I are still on speaking terms, if it hasn't forgotten all about me... Kids!!) >({|;-)

In amicitia et fide,

Sorry mi Mari,

The picture needs to be found on a website, otherwise it is not possible to attach any picture to a post. I don't have 'em uploaded to a website  [/img]

Do *too* have a Web site...!

Salve ierum, amica Aelia!

...Na, see, that's what my offer is for. Once I put your pics on the server, they're on our Web site. All you'd have to do is link to their specific filenames in your post and they will dutifully appear, just like our avatars...which, btw, are in that same directory, so I know it works! >({|:-D

Your URL for an image called "sol2-sm2.jpg", pro exemplo, would be:

http://www.societasviaromana.net/images/sol2-sm2.jpg

So you'd put this in your post, in brackets (but I'll use parens so as not to confuse the Board):

(img)http://www.societasviaromana.net/images/sol2-sm2.jpg(/img)

...which, if you do use brackets around the tags [ ], comes out:

See? >({|:-)

I guess many of you wonder what I look like in my gladiator kit so here's a picture taken by the journalist Marcel Bieger of the German reenactor magazine "Karfunkel" at the recontrustructed amphitheater of Xanten this year in June:

The helmet is made out of steel and the pectorale (breast plate) is made out of brass. Both items are custom made.

I was just posing in that picture for the photographer of the German reenactor magazine "Karfunkel" which will publish my article on female gladiators in December. I wish me and my group will put on a show in that arena of Xanten, Germany one day. It's reconstructed though but nonetheless a nice venue.
