My name is Gaius Iulius Tabernarius

I'm a huge fan of anything related to Rome and currently I am a member of Nova roma, which I joined last summer.

I am looking forward to chatting with fellow Romans, and taking in any interesting tid bits like a sponge.

Ave G. Iuli

Salve G. Iuli!

From one new member to another, welcome! I hope that you'll find as much enjoyment here as I have so far. This is a very friendly and amiable group, indeed. :D

Bene vale,

Salve, Iulii Tabernarii -

Very glad to have you with us -- and, especially, I am glad to hear that positive sentiment you expressed over in the Expat thread:
For me both organizations [SVR and NR] have common purpose and therefore are natural allies or at least helping one helps both.

That's my own feeling, or at least my hope.

Apud nos, bene vale, ut valeamus omnes.

Ave V. Claudius

Hey as cynical as I am on most things I can’t help but be optimistic.

It wouldn’t be very roman of me to have so little faith in Rome or for that matter anything of worth.

I am happy to be here and happy to contribute in my own modest ways.

100 Sodales!

Salve iterum, amice...

Not just 'endangered'; we are a displaced people. We no longer have a homeland; we've been pretty thoroughly dispersed. I'm not complaining; we did it to enough "difficult neighbors" in our time; reckon it was our turn. But there it is.

We can't take Rome back. (We'd have a hard time talking anybody out of Hispalis...) But at least we can gather here! >({|:-)

In fide,

my mission

"We can't take Rome back"

Your right we can't, maybe some day Rome will take us back. One can only hope but for the here and now Romans spending time together; persevering and propagating the Via Romana is enough.

I take it one of your issues with nova roma is its hope for sovereignty; a valid concern, (that I share.) I would like to think that I am right in practicing roman customs and if I am right then it should be supposed that one day people from all over the world will adopted them. We need not rule the world if the world is full of Romans.

If anything I can do will bring about a more civilized existence hundreds of years after my death than that will be enough for me. Glory and power would be nice, but at heart I am an idealist. I care more about the well being of civilization than my own personal ambitions. In my book that is an example of healthy ambition, not the kind that led Constantine the usurper to denude the border defenses of Britain and the Rhone river, (allowing barbarians to issue forth) all so he could march on Rome.
