From Legio IX Hispana, which has cohortes throughout the southwestern US:

FIrst National Muster for Legio IX Hispana

FEBRUARY 9th-16th, 2009

We will gather at the SCA's Estrella War:

http://www.estrellawar.org/ESTRELLAWAR.aspx

We'll set up a Roman camp with bread ovens plus a forge and workshops for the manufacture of essential kit to include: metal, wood and leather craft... such as [loricae] segmentatae, pila, furcae (carrying-poles), loculi (satchels), tegimentes[/i] (scutum [shield] covers) and so on.

We're also working on a way to glue up scuta using methods that might have been used to create a Roman gluing jig.. more than one at a time!

This will be an excellent opportunity for Members to spend as much as a week working on kit!

Other activities wil include morning assembly, weapons drill and a daily march as well as at least one campaign march in full kit!

We'll camp on site as historically as possible!

Why the Estrella War?
  • several of us already attend
  • it will help promote our Arizona and Texas chapters
  • it's central to most of the Legio IX membership
You'll get a chance to see the debut of our new SCA combat kit, the most historically accurate Roman presence on the SCA battlefield. Yes... combatants will be wearing their reenactor segmentatae!
[Ed. note: the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism)'s usual battle-armor is designed for safety rather than accuracy; Legio IX is going in the real thing!]

Not a Member of Legio IX Hispana? Think you might want to attend? Then please write me direct at...... legixhisp -at- yahoo -dot- com
