Salvete!

I'm convinced the romans had music. But what was it used for? Did they sing when going to the temples? Did they use Music for parties? Where there famous musicians? Could you go and see "a band"?

Salve Locate,

This topic has come up every now and then in various newsgroups and communities about Rome. The problem is that no real Roman music has survived. All they can do is copy the instruments and see what they can come up with ;). I heard some of this re-created music is extremely bad. It was discussed at the chat, by the way, yesterday.

As for concerts, I'm not sure. I'm under the impression that music played a secondary role to theatre and dance (not to mention other public events).

Vale bene,

And what kind of instruments did the Romans use then?
