I found the following striking words, which I think go perfectly with the picture of the famous Athenian grave stèlè of Hegeso, in the introduction of M. Yourcenar's "La Couronne et la Lyre". Very well worded, I think.

They chose to show not the horror of death, but the melancholy of no longer being alive, the discreet goodbye of husband to wive, of father to son, of friend to friend
