I recently translated "Michelle" on my blog. Hope you all enjoy.

“Michelle”, written by Paul McCartney, on Rubber Soul, now is translated into Latin for your aural pleasures. I left the French, save the tagline, intact. Also, you should be able to sing along with the original, unlike many other “translations” of popular music. Enjoy!

Missella, ma bella,
Illa verba videntur bona
Ma Missella

Missella, ma bella
Sont des mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
tres bien ensemble

Te amo, te amo, te amo
omnia me loqui velle
dum inveniam viam
Modo verba dicam quae scio te videre

Missella, ma bella,
Sont des mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
tres bien ensemble

Necesse, necesse, necesse
decet videre tibi
o tu es quod mihi
interea maneo spero te videre…

Te amo!

Te volo, te volo, te volo
Puto iam te scire
aliqua capire
interea te dico sic tibi videre

Missella, ma bella,
Sont des mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
tres bien ensemble

Modo verba dicam quae scio te videre
Ma Missella

Yes, yes, I know that “ma” is not real Latin. There are liberties with every poem, and this is one I’m taking.

Ita!

Salve, mi Scerio!

"Et Aubrey nomen fuit / Non ordinariam nomen puellamque fuit / Sed nomen fuit..."

That's as far as I ever got with that one. And we won't even mention the gods-awful rendition of the Winnie-the-Pooh song I inflicted on Combat Poodle Pepper several years ago, for which he did refrain from biting me.

Gratias ago for sharing this delightful translation with us! (Mehercule, you even made it look easy.)

In amicitia,

Mi Mari, that was easy! It took me no longer than two hours to do that whole poem, though I do now find a mistake. I also have "Something" which only took me less than an hour to do, but am going to look it over later for polishing. Total time, I kid you not, 40 minutes. Facillima!

Not to gloat, but translating the Beatles' isn't that difficult, considering the wording used. All one has to do is be familiar with enough small words to make it fit the original song... It's not like it's any Horatian ode. :P

Here ya go...

...You've just earned a new agnomen: I now pronounce you Gloriosus.

Hmmm...I'll think about it.

Of course, I am a Bard, so it is my sacred duty to hold up, for praise or ridicule, anyone who I see desperately needs it. NR's ex-Consul Cincinnatus never figured that out. Hands down, the best way not to be considered boastful is not to boast...
