QUIZ: Tour of a Roman House

Postby Aldus Marius on Wed May 02, 2007 6:29 am

Avete, amici Romani!

Ever wanted to build your own domus? Maybe invest in a little "fixer-upper" in Pompeii or Herculaneum? Or at least want to startle your fellow-tourists by knowing what each room was called and what it was for? Here's a nifty little quiz, called "A Tour of a Wealthy Roman's House", that'll gauge your expertise (and maybe keep you from getting lost!):

(I got a 92.) >({(:-)

Oh, dear...

Postby Aldus Marius on Thu May 03, 2007 6:12 pm

Oh, dear... I thought everyone would do better than me; I tried to design a domus maybe 15 years ago, and that was the last time I even thought about it...

Forgive me, O Great Ones!!

(Mi Draco, at 66%, you'd only get lost one-third of the time...which is about my average in a tiny, two-bedroom apartment.) >({|8-|

Salvete

Never having really looked into the subject (except maybe 40 yrs ago when I first studied Latin) I thought I'd do much worse. Only a 75% with which I was surprised. Not bad as I would be more at home on a trek along the cales or in a castra.

Two weeks later and I still couldn't remember everything. It is indeed time for review, though it was better this time: 92%.

87%. I actually lost almost all my points in a single question, about where the bedrooms were located. I only chose the right answer after eliminating the other three first.

Gnashing of teeth.
