Pictures from Rome and Pompeii 2007

Postby Cleopatra Aelia on Mon Jun 30, 2008 8:31 pm

As promised here are some pics from my recent trip to Rome and the excursion to Pompeii:

You all know this building of course. Needless to say anything about it. ;-)

Much older than the Colosseum the amphitheater of Pompeii was the first stone built amphitheater constructed in 70 BC.

I did see something else than just amphitheaters. Very impressive are the markets of Trajan.

What is that blob in the last picture of Trajan's market?

I like all your pics! Did you get to go inside the Pompeii ampitheater?

And BTW...did you by any chance get any pics of the Isis temple in Pompeii?

That is a sculpture of a modern artist lying around. They were all over the place, all eggshaped. One was in a stall on the upper floor and I couldn't resist saying that was the booth of an egg store.

Yes, I was standing in the arena. It wasn't possible though to go up the cavea, that was closed.

Photographiae Romae

Postby Valerius Claudius Iohanes on Thu Jul 03, 2008 6:14 pm

Salve, Cleopatra Aelia -

Nice photos. My goal is to get to Rome this coming year, 2762/2009.

Yeah, those "eggs" -- what's with that? I guess he or she was after some utter contrast, some contradiction to tickle the modern muse.

Or add to the rubble...

I remember reading an article about that installation, but of course now I don't remember where, when, or what it said. Drat my head!

Anyhoo, it's not permanent. (The modern rubble, not my head.) >({|;-)

In amicitia,
