Salvete, new amici; tell us a bit about yourselves! But this is no ordinary Intro forum; you will learn quite a bit about the rest of us too. >({|:-)

Amicus meus

Postby Anonymous on Sun Jan 18, 2004 9:37 pm

Hi,

I'm new to the group and want to briefly introduce myself. My place of residence is Grand Blanc (close to Flint) Michigan, the un-official freezer of the Midwest, married with two kids, medicus and bookworm professionally, and interested in Mediterranean basin cults & religions and Constantine. Hope to share and enjoy with all.

Salve Oppi Benedicte,

Welcome to the SVR! I hope you will enjoy it here.

Near Flint in Michigan? Isn't it that where Michael Moore also comes from ;)?

Oh yeah, and as the resident lurking Latin inquisition (note the mischievous Caracalla avatar ;)), I've spotted an error in your signature. "Cum" is always with the dative case, so it should be "cum animo sincero".

Vale optime!

Salvete,

Draco scripsit:

"Cum" is always with the dative case, so it should be "cum animo sincero".

Even though "animo sincero" stays the same, cum actually goes with the ablative case.

And a warm welcome of course to our new member, don't let the Latin Inquisition scare you, he's only human as well ;-)

Moore, et al.

Postby Anonymous on Mon Jan 19, 2004 11:44 pm

Thanks for the correction everyone, I'm sure it will ne the forst of a long list to come, part of my goal in joining the list is to practice my poor Latin.

On Mr. Moore, for good or bad, yes, he is from our fair and frosty city. I personally don't mind him overstating his views, but his body habitus makes it seem that the poor devil could have a heart attack any minute.

Salve Oppi Benedicte!

Welcome aboard. And you have nothing to fear from our resident inquisition - in fact, he has even been known to get inquisited himself, so just remind him of that from time to time.

Hehe, good evening mi Draco. 8)

Heia, don't forget we have a resident Master of the Horse here too...so study your Roman ranks (available in the Collegium Militarium), and don't ever use the Bad Word "Legionnaire"![fiendish evil grin]

I'm feeling really left out now... Draco is our Latin Inquisition, and Lupus our Apprentice Inquisitor... Marius is the Master of the Horse... What role do I play in our hallowed Societas? And mi Locate, don't say that I'm one of the two resident alcoholics, I was looking for a more prestigious position than that 8)

Mi Marce,

Do not forget that you are the only man in this Societas who has develloped his own philosophical system, Scribonian ecclectisism...

Now that makes you a noteable man, does it not?

In amicitia

Besides, What do you care what anyone else thinks?

Salvete omnes,

Aule Menci, **Curio waits for Draco to correct his improper use of the vocative of "Aulus"** a good answer, especially your last comment. Dammit will you insist on using my own signature against me? :D

Locate et Draco, forget I said anything - I wasn't accusing anyone of being alcoholic... By the way mi Locate, your domus stocks excellent wine! 8)

I know my wine is good, not to mention 'great'. We go on holiday two times ayear to france, and we bring the 'necessary' bottles with us. Every year another part is visisted and ransacked by my family  .
This year it will be bordeaux and the provincia I think. So stay tuned for the next syposium after our holidays; fresh wine!

What a pitty I'm not an alcoholic anymore (actually it has been 3 years since the last time I was drunk). Maybe after these exams...

Mi Locate, you're not alcoholic anymore? Damn I must have been drunk the last few years, I hadn't even noticed I was alone in my drunken state...

Draco... I don't quite understand the situation... You mean that I was right? Me - Curio? Are you sure? Dammit I just don't understand the situation... Could you explain it one more time please? :P

An appointment to my Staff

Postby Aldus Marius on Tue Jan 27, 2004 1:43 am

Salve iterum, mi Curio...

If Original Philosophical Thinker is too tame for you (it wouldn't be for me; I couldn't pull that off in a thousand years!), I may have something a bit more martial that fits: Perhaps you and your quarterstaff would consider filling the position of Sergeant-of-Arms? It is a time-honored one, and still in use; I'm sure your peer in the U.S. House of Representatives could use some coaching in how to effectively wield that Mace...
