"Hadrian's Travels"

The main forum of the Societas Via Romana. Anything not covered by one of the Collegia is probably being discussed here!

In your estimation, why has Board activity dropped so sharply in the last few weeks?

"Hadrian's Travels"

Postby Aldus Marius on Sun Aug 07, 2005 12:52 am

Avete amici...

Don't look now, but this political situation seems to have strangled discourse in the SVR Forum. I say "seems to have" because there could be other reasons for it; summer doldrums, summer vacation, the Finally Final Pre-Post-Preparatory Exams that must surely be looming over the heads of our college contingent...

No matter. In an effort to revive the Board, I am going on a tour. Emperor Hadrian did the same, which explains the title of this thread. Only, since we don't have Provinces (except the Belgica), I shall instead be visiting each Collegium this week and posting something there, if I think I have something useful to say. I'm not sure yet, but I may put "Hadrian's Travels" in each subject-header so that those who are so inclined may follow my progress. (If I were a real virtuoso I'd start an original discussion in each Collegium...but I'm not.) >({(:-)

This is my entry for the General subject-area. I will, of course, also post responses to anything that I think needs them.

Anybody wanna come along...? <g>

In fide,
Aldus Marius Peregrinus.

Salve mi Mari, salvete omnes

As for me, I am currently dividing my time between a holiday job and study. It is a demanding job, and I have been assigned to early duty for the whole month, which means I have to get up at 4.40 am... When I get home at about 3pm, I hit the shower and then try to work on some Chinese and Japanese...

Luckily, I'll start my last week on the job tomorrow... Need some sleep :!:

Salvete Mari et sodales omnes

As for me, I have been traveling, mostly short trips but I will again be out of state next month, and also I have been receiving others who have been travelling here to visit with me. Some celebrations that take place in summer, such as my wedding anniversary the other day that began Thursday and ended Saturday with a Lebanese feast and dancing. Not studying much, but instead spending as much time outdoors as I can, trying to keep up with the garden, which I am not doing successfully, and foraging the wilds with a camera for a project I started. Other things have kept my online time engaged, so that I am not visiting many lists. Just enjoying the summer. But I'll be happy to travel around the fora with you, Mari.

Salvete amici!

Hoody-Hoo--I've got company!! And such distinguished company too. Romans are Better in Batches! (tm) >({|:-D

Fear not, I won't be dashing too far ahead; knowing me, it'll probably take rather longer than a week to complete the tour anyway. I just didn't want the Board to be totally idle between now and our "Constitutional Convention" on the 15th. I've already ID'd some possible drop-off points for a contribution, and a couple of them will need some research, so...hey, we're all discipuli here, non'?

Salve mi Mari,
salvete omnes,

I had been very busy the past week meeting a friend, visiting my grandma at hospital and then preparing my birthday party. But now I'm back in full swing.

I, too noticed that lately all discussions here were centered around the issue of reconstructing the SVR. But I hope that we will also continue with our normal discussions about anything Roman related.

Gathering Goodies

Postby Aldus Marius on Tue Aug 09, 2005 8:45 am

Salvete omnes!

Scerio amice, it's all good. I'm still 'packing' anyway: gathering good and/or interesting things to present to the inhabitants of the places where I find myself. It should be a more fruitful trip for the preparations!
>({|;-)

It looks like I'll have some travel-companions maybe as soon as Thursday, so I'll ty to do my first stop then.

Technical question

Postby Aldus Marius on Thu Aug 11, 2005 8:20 am

Salvete amici, especially those of you who've been Aediles...

I have a Roman-themed boardgame that I invented several years ago, and I'd like to post the rules for it in either CollArt or the Ludi. ("Mari posting to the Ludi???" --It can happen!) Anyhow, the original .doc has embedded graphics that make the rules a lot easier to understand, and I would like to post these along with the text. Is there a way to do this?

I've already converted the rules into plain text, and have the pics available as separate files. I've noticed there is an [Img] button when you're writing a post, right there with the colors and bolds and italics. What I'm not clear on is if you can just upload graphics from your computer, or if they need to be somewhere special first (like on the Web), or...

If I have to, I can put the images in my Yahoo Photos; but I'm not sure how viewable they are from there.

Any help?

Gratias vobis ago,
Aldus Marius Peregrinus.

Salve Mari,

certainly, just e-mail the pictures to me and I'll upload them to the site. Then, you just enter the image tags like this:

(img)insert-the-url-here(/img)

And that should do the trick. You have to change the ( to [ of course.

In case you've forgotten my e-mail, send me a PM.

Incoming!

Postby Aldus Marius on Fri Aug 12, 2005 8:09 am

Ave iterum, Tiberi!

Game graphics are on their way...assuming I have the right addy for you, from back in our wallpaper-factory days.

I'll need the new URL for them when they're all settled in, so's I can include it in the Img tag.

Guess I'd better get on the stick if I'm going to post anything today...it's still Thursday where I'm sitting, but hardly anywhere else! =({|8-)

Salve Mari,

I just got back from the Czech Republic with Lucia's family, and I'll soon be studying for my final exam. I believe Lupus and Atticus have been away too, in the Ardennes.

I guess not one explanation is the sole cause of declining activity, I think it's a mix of all, but for this period I think vacations and travels are the most probable reason.

Optime vale,

Game and Poll

Postby Aldus Marius on Mon Aug 15, 2005 3:00 am

Salvete amici!

Good news--Game's up!! (I put it in CollArt after all.)

Mi Draco, I agree with you completely that there had to be more than one reason for the SVR Board's recent drowsiness; that's why I had more than one (or two) options on the poll, including a write-in. Anything involving human behavior is likely to be complex, and if I'd known of a way to allow more than one answer I'd've done it.

Great to have you back!

Playing catch-up

Postby Aldus Marius on Thu Aug 25, 2005 9:39 am

Avete amici,

I'm not obsessing over the Concilium deliberations--I'm not, I'm not, I'm not!! >({|;-)

Just to prove it (and, yes, by way of coming up for air), I'm posting (a) a Media review; (b) something for CollHist on the Last Legion; and (c) "The Ultimate Bastard" for ColLingAnt.

My apologies for not keeping up with my original 'travel plans'.
