Inscriptiones Latinae Selectae (ILS) on the Web

Salvete amici...

On the SVR site, in the Collegium Historicum, among the Essays and Contributions, is a primer on Roman Rhetoric. Pars IV of this manual covers how a Roman, ancient or modern, might go about gathering facts for his or her upcoming oration. On this page are four links to sources mostly dealing with Roman inscriptions:

http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/ , the Perseus Project;
http://www.gnomon.ku-eichstaett.de/Gnomon/ILS.html , the Inscriptiones Latinae Selectae (ILS, a major resource);
http://www.ilateyst.de/ , the ILS 'folio-server' accessed via the above; and
http://asgle.classics.unc.edu/abbrev/latin/ , 'Abreviations Used in Latin Inscriptions'.

Last night I discovered that the Folio-server for the actual inscriptions, on which some of the others depend, is 'Temporarily Unavailable' and has been for some time. I've found us an alternate that I hope will fulfill at least some of the need:

http://www.uni-heidelberg.de/institute/ ... ex.html.en

This is the University of Heidelberg's Epigraphy Databank. It contains a large part of the content of the ILS, and is growing as various national and regional inscription registries are consolidated.

If anyone else knows of or finds a site where one can access the whole thing, please post the link here. If the one I found isn't suitable after all, send me a PM and I'll make another sortie!

In fide,
Aldus Marius Peregrinus.

I found this, but I'm not sure how to access an index of it. It's the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinorum (CIL).

http://www.archeologhia.com/CIL/txt/Ins ... /cil01.txt

To go through the book, just change the 01...01 ti the number. So CIL 02 would be:

http://www.archeologhia.com/CIL/txt/Ins ... /cil02.txt

and 10 would be:

http://www.archeologhia.com/CIL/txt/Ins ... /cil10.txt

Enjoy!

Salve, Scerio amice...

...et gratias ago for scaring this up. Here's the index:

I shall certainly have to play with this!
