The Literature of the Romans, an introduction
by: Q. Pomponius Atticus & M. Pomponius Lupus
PREFACE

In this overview of Roman literature, we have striven to give a general overview of Roman literary production, from Livius Andronicus to Servius Honoratus, in which the aesthetical enjoyment of the ancient texts will be the central focus.

Biographical data and philological matters (such as authenticity-debates, issues on dates etc.) are reduced to a necessary minimum, in order to achieve the goal of this ‘introduction’* without daunting or distracting the reader.

In writing this overview, we are greatly indebted to Prof. Dr. Daniël Knecht, whose excellent overview of Roman literature, taught at the University of Ghent, has been invaluable as a source for drawing up this document.

Quintus Pomponius Atticus, Ganda, a. d. XV Kal. Mart., MMDCCLV auc
